Cause:
Wear at the damper clutch control valve bore allows solenoid modulator pressure leakage, preventing the valve from staying in the applied position.

Correction:
The Sonnax replacement damper clutch control valve and sleeve provides slightly longer spool engagement at the critical locations, is oversized to restore hydraulic sealing in a refurbished bore, and includes annular grooves to help prevent future wear.

The damper clutch control valve in Hyundai/Kia A4CF1, A4CF2 transmissions controls fluid pressure to the apply and release side of the converter clutch as well as to the cooler and lube circuits based upon the valve position. Solenoid modulator pressure works on the outboard valve spool diameter to stroke the valve into the converter apply position, and PCS signal pressure, combined with spring force at the inboard valve spool, work to stroke the valve into the converter release position. Wear at either of these critical valve-to-bore (casting or sleeve) locations will prevent proper functioning of the converter. The Sonnax oversized damper clutch control valve kit will restore the proper hydraulic clearance necessary to allow these pressures to work appropriately when used in a reamed bore.
